Don’t Go Broke Trying to Build an Online Business
Trying to Buy Success
How much are you spending to learn the tricks of the Internet marketing trade? Are you spending cash hand over fist in pursuit of an ideal approach to implement your business idea? Are you becoming an IM product addict, investing your cash in anything and everything that might improve you bottom line?
You’re not the only one convinced that the only way to make money involves spending it in copious quantities. Many IMers are on the buy-buy-buy-and-buy-some-more treadmill.
And that’s totally understandable. It’s perfectly reasonable to purchase new products and information to refine your already-successful business. It’s sane and sensible to invest in new strategy guides to stay abreast of changes in the industry and to get your hands on innovative ideas. Making those purchases before you have a profitable business is a different matter, though.
There’s a big difference between the person who’s staying on the cutting edge of new developments and the person who’s spending like a madman in hopes of finding a magical solution that will turn things around.
You want to be the smart investor. You don’t want to spend yourself into bankruptcy before you build a real business.
Making Smart Purchases
So, how do you avoid becoming the wrong kind of serial buyer? You need to build a solid foundation for your business. If you look at the core of Internet marketing, it’s really rather simple.
You must have a product you can sell. You need to have a strategy to sell that product. You need a way to generate traffic to the site from which you’re making that sales pitch.
That’s it. All of your efforts should relate to one of those basic needs.
So, you must work to create a strong presence on all three of those fronts. When you buy something, it must directly address one of those three foundational needs.
You must have a foundation that let’s you make money from home before you invest in extras, details, tricks or adjustments. You can start experiencing real IM success after that foundation is in place. Then you can start experimenting with new ideas and products.
How to Build Your Foundation
You can start building that money making foundation without going broke in the process. Here’s what you need to do.
- Develop a holistic understanding of Internet marketing. You need to learn how things work from someone who’s spent time in the trenches.
- Focus a great deal of effort on traffic generation. Traffic is one of the three core needs mentioned above. It’s probably the most important of those three elements. Without traffic, you can’t determine if your product is interesting or if you’re sales strategy is working.| Absent traffic, you can’t determine if you have the right product or a workable sales strategy. You need to get people to your site as soon as possible.
- Discover a continuing source of support and guidance. An ebook can be great. A video can be invaluable. However, there’s nothing like developing an ongoing connection with a coach or mentor who has a history of success and a willingness to show you the ropes. You can become more efficient and successful when you’re on the receiving end of expert advice.
- Minimize your exposure. Find a way to accomplish those objectives without putting yourself at risk of substantial loss. Look for opportunities to secure the right information at a reasonable price. Find a small business coaching opportunity that doesn’t require a fat up-front commitment and that doesn’t lock you into a multi-month contract.
